Who We Are
ReConnect/ReCollect: Reparative Connections to Philippine Collections at the University of Michigan is a diverse group of faculty, librarians, archivists, curators, collections managers, students, and members of the Filipino/Filipinx community committed to developing models for culturally-responsive and historically-minded stewardship of the Philippine collections at the University of Michigan.
“The composition of our team is unique in the way it crosses disciplinary and professional boundaries: it includes leading archivists, collections managers, LSA and SI research faculty, and graduate students.”Ricky Punzalan, Co-PI
“Our project will explore and experiment with approaches to building relationships between collections and communities to produce a model for assessing and repairing harm. In this sense, the process is the product.“Deirdre De La Cruz, Co- PI
Our project responds to the profound challenge of facilitating meaningful connections between colonial collections and the descendants of communities they document. The goal is to reconceptualize cultural heritage work from the perspective of relationships, building where bonds do not exist or repairing when trust has been broken.
